The Wakefield open-air gallery came to us as they were having some building works done, they were creating a new car park and associated buildings. They wanted someone who could provide and install a business Sliding Gate Wakefield similar to the ones already have on their site but to the entrance of their new car park.

The open-air gallery in West Bretton near Wakefield shows work by British and international artists including Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. The park is one of the largest open-air displays in Europe. The park occupies Bretton Hall, an 18th-century estate, with the Grade II listed Chapel recently restored for use as gallery space, the park is on the border of West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire. The open-air gallery opened in 1977 and was one of the first UK parks that were based on open-air exhibitions, organised with a changing exhibition programme rather than permanent displays.

Sliding Gate Wakefield

The open-air gallery already had existing electric gates around the site and they wanted a Sliding Gate Wakefield in their new car park that matched. The park noticed a supplier’s name on their existing gates and called the supplier to ask who they recommended, shortly after their conversation we received a call from the park. They knew exactly the type of Gate and colour they wanted in their new car park, all they wanted was a reputable company to come take a look and quote for the works.

The installation of the Sliding Gate Wakefield system

Upon viewing the new car park, we recommended a heavy-duty 1.2m high Automatic business Sliding security Gate Wakefield, which suited a 9m opening to the new car park. The customer wanted it in a grey colour and we advised a vertical bar infill that would suit the surroundings. They went ahead with their quote and it was installed in compliance with Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, including a category 3 safety edge system which detects if anything is within the photocells and stops the gate from closing on a vehicle. We also suggested an audio intercom in red at car height on a metal post, which communicates with the security kiosk to let cars in, with an induction loop installed on the secure side of the gate which detects cars and opens the gate to let them out.
