Aberford Almshouse Trust came to us following an extension to their existing building, they needed to extend their existing small business Fire Alarm systems into the new flats. Upon our engineer’s arrival, we noted that the Fire Alarm Leeds couldn’t be extended any further and so would require a new Fire Panel…
Aberford Almshouse Trust is an accommodation that provides independent living for the retired. The Trust is a registered charity and were established by the Gascoigne family of Lotherton Hall in 1846, to provide accommodation for farm workers and poor people of the area. Aberford Almshouse was sold to the City Council in 1976 and the proceeds went to the Trustees, who then purchased a piece of land within the Parlington Estate and so built Parlington House. The unfurnished flats of Parlington House come with a communal lounge, laundry room and gardens. The residents do not pay rent, they pay a weekly maintenance contribution as they are beneficiaries of the charity. The 28 flats are all wheelchair accessible and are either 1 or 2 bedroomed.
Fire Alarm Leeds
Aberford Almshouse Trust came to TI Security after they added an extension to Parlington House. They had an electrician working onsite who recommended that we come and extend their Fire Alarm into the new flats so the Fire Alarm Leeds met the Fire Risk Assessment criteria. The Risk Assessment stated the building required 4 visits per year for the Fire Alarm servicing, they felt they weren’t getting the most from their current supplier, so we’re happy to get some fresh eyes looking at how to improve their Fire Alarm Leeds.
Adding detection to Fire Alarm Leeds
We sent an engineer out to add detection into the new extension area, however, the Fire Alarm Leeds could not be extended. They required an upgrade on the Fire Alarm Panel so that could it could respond to all possible alerts and triggers. Upon replacing the Fire Panel and fitting more detection and call points, the engineer tested the Fire Alarm and noticed there were multiple faults. The faults were found and cleared with the Fire Panel left in full working order with detection now added to the new part of the building, ready to react in the event of an emergency. With so many residents in the flats, it is essential that the Fire Alarm worked so residents have enough time to be alerted and get to safety.
