We have worked with Russell’s Construction on many occasions, providing a range of business access control systems solutions to ensure that their sites are safe, secure and well managed. Their primary requirements were to control access through portacabin entrances at their construction sites, with an integrated networked system to help them log and manage staff and contractor data.

Established in 1997, Manchester-based Russell’s Construction is one of the North Wests largest and most successful construction firms. Growing from a small contractor to a multi-million-pound business operating nationally. Russell’s has earned a great reputation over the years and boasts an impressive portfolio of well-known clients including Travelodge, Premier Inn, Asda, FedEx, Waitrose and B&Q, spanning over a variety of locations, such as Manchester, Liverpool and Harrogate.

Benefits of Biometric Access Control

Biometric Access Control Readers are the latest contactless smart card combined with a fingerprint. They look smart and are easy to use, ensuring peace of mind, that only the right people can gain access to your sensitive or dangerous areas. The Biometric Access Control replaces the need for keys, fobs and pin codes, so your finger or hand becomes the key. It can open a door or in this case a turnstile in less than 1 second, and because the finger or handprint is translated into an algorithm, it takes multiple points from a finger rather than an actual fingerprint, so it is never stored on the system and so cannot be taken from the system and duplicated. Keys, codes, fobs aren’t protected against theft or loss, biometrics can be controlled, you can decide who has access on which days and times, remove ex-employees so they cannot gain access but any attempt is logged. Knowing who is in/out and how long each employee has worked every day, seeing a report of all entry and exits, making the calculation of payroll easier.

Biometric Access Control

Russell’s required a fast and efficient Biometric Access Control solution on their entry and exit turnstiles; permanent staff and contractors can be easily registered for handprint recognition, allowing site access to be granted without the need for manual checks. Ensuring that no one can enter the construction site without going via the biometrics system. We then connected the business Access Control systems with the Fire Alarm, so the sounding of the fire alarm overrides the turnstile system, switching it to free rotate to ensure a fast and safe evacuation. The biometrics logs the time all staff and contractors entered, this allows the site managers to extract a data report to monitor staff/contractor timesheets in the event if employment dispute.
